CROWE AND RAWLINSON
CARRIERS' PRAYER
15TH NOVEMBER 2008 - 31ST JANUARY 2009
crowe and rawlinson: video still
In this exhibition, in the upper gallery, NIck Crowe and Ian Rawlinson explore their fascination with the transformative potential of an event or spectacle.
Carriers' Prayer reveals the pyrotechnic potential of the plastic carrier bag, discovered by the artists, by watching the antics of children playing with the detritus of the city.
Presented in the context of a chapel, these street fireworks take on new meanings.
The second of the two films in this exhibition, The Fireworks, subverts the usual associations of celebration with the ordered public display. Crowe and Rawlinson's dysfunctional display takes place within a confined gallery space.
