Patrick Lowry
American Dream

27th April – 5th July 2013

Patrick Lowry is constructing a full-sized replica of
the façade and garden of a 1950s American suburban
home complete with a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air.
American Dream is a work conceived as a response to, and comment on, the current crises of capitalism and our consumptiondriven society. The work looks back to the seductive beginnings of the new, suburban, consumerist revolution that now dominates western societies and continues to expand globally.
In addition to the installation there will be prints based on mid-century suburban housing plans and In The Suburbs, a 1957 market analysis film extolling 1950s suburbanites as citizens and consumers.

Rituals Are Tellers Of Us

4th May – 29th June 2013

Lindsey Bull, Tereza Bušková, Matthew Cowan,
Jeremy Deller, Hew Locke, Eleanor Moreton, Abigail Reynolds, Anna Sadler & Jon Greenland, Tim Shaw.

A feast of real, invented and re-made rituals, Rituals Are Tellers Of Us brings together works that take inspiration from rich folk traditions and communal acts. This group exhibition includes paintings of costumed figures by Eleanor Moreton, Tim Shaw's mythological fertility sculptures, the exaggerated folk costumes of Matthew Cowan, Tereza Buskova's video of spring rites, and works by other artists in a range of media.

Curated by MA Curatorial Practice students from Falmouth University, in partnership with Newlyn Art Gallery and The Exchange. This is the fifth year of Falmouth University’s MA Curatorial Practice course. The project was selected from three proposed by the students in January. Gallery staff guide and mentor the students through each area of delivering a public exhibition.
