The Exchange

George Meyrick 28th April - 14th April 2012
Simple Matters - Geometric wall paintings and sculptural interventions

Members’ Event - Friday 27th January, 6.30pm
George Meyrick will give an introduction to his work before the public opening of the exhibition. A members-only event. Free.

Preview - Friday 27th January 7.30-9pm
All are welcome to attend, pay bar available.

George Meyrick uses geometric shapes to make elegant forms that hover between two and three dimensions, citing the Russian constructivists and American minimalists as early influences on his practice. Meyrick is creating new works that respond physically to the architecture of The Exchange. Sculptural triangles intersect corners or emerge from the surface of walls to combine with flat geometric wall paintings. This interplay of actual and implied forms is a key element of Meyrick’s work. By cutting into the walls and drawing through the spaces with coloured cord, the works invite the viewer to reconsider the gallery space.
